How to Backup and Restore Microsoft Sticky Notes

Sticky Notes data is stored in a local database file.

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Navigate to: %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
  3. Copy and paste the folder location above or below into the address bar of File Explorer, and press Enter: %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
  4. Copy the plum.sqlite file to where they will backup their Sticky Notes.
  5. To restore the notes, Make sure you the user sign-in with your profile where the Sticky Notes will be restored.
  6. Close all instances of Sticky Notes (Microsoft.StickyNotes.exe) in Task Manager.
  7. Copy and paste the folder location below into the address bar of File Explorer, and press Enter: %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
  8. Copy and paste the backed up plum.sqlite file from step 3 into the LocalState folder.
  9. Click on Replace the file in the destination.
  10. Open the Sticky Notes app to verify their Sticky Notes have been recovered.
